OUR NEWSROOM IS YOUR CLASSROOM

All the staff at News Associates are committed to getting students successfully through our training schemes and, equally importantly, into the work place.

Full-time tutors are supported by members of our reporting team and all students are assigned a 'working journalist' to mentor them during and after their time with us.

This is a fast-changing industry and we believe it's vital you receive tuition from those who are working day in, day out with the changing technology and methods of newspaper journalism.

That's when studying with a working press agency - working at the heart of the UK press - really pays dividends.

Course Director Richard Parsons is a former Editor of the Buckinghamshire Advertiser, the Uxbridge Gazette series and later Editor in Chief of the Surrey Herald, Informer and Leader series. He has also worked in Fleet Street on PA News, the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday and Sunday Express.  Richard has played a key role on the NCTJ working parties that have developed new qualifications in sub-editing and sports journalism. In addition, he is one of three NCTJ news writing examination moderators - responsible for marking at all centres across the UK.

Head of Journalism Training (London) Andy Moorhouse has worked as a reporter, news editor and chief sub-editor before taking over his current role - where he has achieved a succcession of stellar results that rank us among the top journalism training providers in the UK.

Head of Journalism Training (Manchester) Ian Gilbert joins News Associates after ten years on leading Australian broadsheet daily The Age. In Melbourne he held a number of senior positions across news, sport and features, including Deputy Editor of their award-winning magazine. A former NCTJ graduate, who started his career in UK local papers. Ian is assisted by journalism and law tutor Virginia Bridgwater - a journalist with reporting and subbing experience at local, regional and national newspapers.

James Toney is the Managing Editor at News Associates/Sportsbeat. An award-winning journalist, he has been highly commended for his journalism by Sport England and the Sports Journalists Association. He is regularly shortlisted in the Sports Journalist of the Year category at the industry 'Oscars', organised by trade magazine Press Gazette. James was integral to development of the NCTJ's new Sports Journalism qualification - launched in September 2007.

Head Public affairs tutor Dr Daragh Minogue is currently Academic Director, School of Communications, Culture and Creative Arts at St Mary's College, University of Surrey. He has been full-time teaching in higher education for seven years, heads up four degree programmes and sits on the academic board at the college. Daragh's main research interests encompass politics and the media and he works closely with the NCTJ to develop the Public Affairs syllabus for all centres.  Daragh is assisted by Gavin Miller and Dr Daphne Halikiopoulou in London and Dave Toomer in Manchester.

Law lecturers Hilary Kingsley and Nina Jacobs are both experienced journalists. Hilary has been a staff journalist on a variety of national newspapers and magazines, serving as feature writer and TV critic. Her interest in media law is backed up by her work as a Magistrate. Nina has a background in local newspapers and magazines, working as a reporter, sub-editor and news editor. She is also a member of the NCTJ's journalism marking panel.

London shorthand tutor Angela Catto heads up our shorthand teaching team. A lecturer with 20 years experience and an impressive success rate of getting aspiring journalists to pass their critical 100-word per minute exam. Angela also sits as a member of  the NCTJ's shorthand council, meaning she has an active role in developing the subject across all training centres. Angela is supported by Eileen Crawford, a former shorthand lecturer at City University.

Manchester shorthand tutor Sue Greene has more than 20 years experience as a shorthand teacher, working at further education establishments across the north-west.
